Foundation

Affiliated to the Shanghai Academy of Educational Sciences, the Center for International Education Study of the Ministry of Education was founded on May 25, 2006, after being approved by the Ministry of Education.

Nature

Commissioned by the Ministry of Education, the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission established the Center for International Education Study of the Ministry of Education. It is affiliated to the Shanghai Academy of Educational Sciences and under the co-leadership of the Department of International Affairs of the Ministry of Education and the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission. The Center functions as a national base of international educational study and consultation.

Structure

CIES is affiliated to the Shanghai Academy of Educational Sciences. The Center gains supports from the Academy and is geared to the needs of the whole country. Research members of the Center come from all over the country, and are linked with each other through common projects. The main organs of the Center are the Leading Group and the Cooperation Group. The Cooperation Group is in charge of day-to-day affairs of the Center.

Main functions

  • Conduct comparative studies on education all over the world, and provide theoretical support and international experiences for the internationalization and opening-up of education in China.
  • Undertake research projects commissioned by the Ministry of Education, and provide policy-making consultative services for the Ministry of Education.
  • Undertake projects commissioned by educational authorities and organizations at the provincial and municipal level, and provide policy-making consultative services for the development of educational internationalization.
  • Investigate the status quo of educational internationalization in China, and establish national information networks and platforms concerned.
  • Carry out cooperative research on the internationalization of education, cultivate academic relationships with international education organizations, propagate China’s advocacies of education through international research platforms, and demonstrate China’s strength in educational research.
